Pexton calls for £20m more to back green schemes

NFU deputy president Tony Pexton has called on the Government to give £20 million more for agri-environment schemes.

Twice as many farmers want to join programmes like Countryside Stewardship compared with the places available, says the union.

During the past three years, more than 3000 Countryside Stewardship applications have been rejected.
