Pig Outgoers 2 takes 63% of bidders
By FWi staff
OVER five hundred pig farmers will leave the industry, through the Pig Industry Restructuring Scheme – Outgoers Mark 2.
The Meat and Livestock Commissions publication UK market survey reports that of the 800 claims, 63% were successful, far higher than under the first Outgoers scheme.
The higher success rate is due to bids being tendered at a lower level, says the MLC. In total 57,916 sow places were accepted, just exceeding the 5 million budget.
The highest bid accepted under the second scheme was 190.42 per sow place, compared with 237 in the first. Applicants will receive 60% of the amount they bid.
