TOP yields with lower inputs is the claim Daltons make for white pea variety Jackpot.
In NIAB and ARC trials last summer its mean yield was rated at 102, just one point behind Espace and a point ahead of Eiffel. Results in the wet conditions of 1998 were even better, thanks to the varietys downy mildew and mycosphaerella resistance plus good standing ability, says director James Wallace.
PGROs Anthony Biddle backs that up. "Based on observations so far Jackpot shows good resistance to primary and secondary forms of downy mildew and is tolerant to mycosphaerella," he says. It will be used in an organic trial this spring, adds fellow technical officer Cathy Knott.
Retail price will be about £285/t including thiram dressing. The variety is not NIAB-listed.
