IT COULD take 10 years before right-to-roam legislation is operating properly, according to the National Farmers Union head of environmental land use.
Addressing NFU Council on Thursday (05 October) Brian McLaughlin said he believed the Countryside and Rights of Way Bill would go through despite rumours to the contrary.
“Its a flagship piece of legislation for the Government, and I suspect they will start giving in to amendments to get the Bill through” he said.
But he added there were many hurdles to be overcome before the Bill was really working.
“It could be at least 10 years before full access to the countryside is in place as the government envisages.”
