Scots council demands update in sewage-as-fertiliser regs

GROWING health fears surrounding the use of organic sewage waste as a farm
fertiliser has prompted Perth and Kinross Council to demand a change in the law
on the practice.

The Scottish council will next week consider a report by its public and
environmental protection department which says current regulations are past
their sell-by date. It says public health is at risk and waste should not be
used on land without treatment to get rid of pathogens.

Villagers have campaigned against its use following an outbreak of
illnes.
