Scots farmers angry at Arable Aid delay
SCOTTISH farmers are up in arms over the delay in the Arable Aid Payment Scheme.
The farmers claim payments of £2 million for the 1997 crop have been outstanding for almost a year.
The delay is thought to affect 25% of Scottish farmers, a council meeting of the Scottish National Farmers Union was told.
The delay has been caused by a problem in tallying acreage payments with Ordnance Survey maps.
The Scottish Office maintains that 81% of farmers had received payment for 1998 – which translates to £92m out of the total of £140m.
