Seed treatment
SEED treatment looks set to be the first use of new Novartis insecticide thiamethoxam (Cruiser, FW Arable Nov 20). In sugar beet it is claimed to be more effective under dry conditions than Gaucho (imidacloprid), with only half the chemical loading. Cereal, oilseed and pulse seed-treatment registrations are also planned for the systemic insecticide which is expected to be launched in 2000 in Europe, the company says.
