Settle outbreaks halt video auction
By FWi staff
PENRITH Farmers and Kidds first video-linked sale has been postponed because of renewed concern over foot-and-mouth outbreaks in the so-called Settle rectangle.
The sale, to be held at Stokesley market in Yorkshire on May 29, was cancelled by chief vet Jim Scudamore.
He had decided that holding the sale was unwise and would risk spreading the disease throughout North Yorkshire.
Mart manager Stephen Aitken, described the decision as “precautionary” and that he understood the decision. He said that the mart now planned to hold the sale in a months time.
Nearly 400 store cattle were catalogued for the sale. These have now been moved direct to farms for finishing under license.
