Sheep farmers invited to advertise 2027 lambing placements

Sheep farmers needing extra help during the 2027 lambing season can now advertise placements through the National Sheep Association (NSA) Lambing List.

The annual service connects farmers across the UK with veterinary and agriculture students seeking practical experience in sheep farming as part of their studies.

Open to NSA members, the scheme, which typically runs from October to April each year, aims to ease labour pressures during one of the busiest periods of the farming calendar while helping students develop livestock-handling and husbandry skills.

Farmers can submit placement details now, with adverts becoming available for students to browse in November, allowing time to make arrangements ahead of lambing.

NSA digital communications officer Lydia Badham said additional help could make a significant difference during the lambing period.

“The NSA Lambing List is a highly valued service that helps sheep farmers across the UK, while giving students valuable hands-on experience and helping to develop the next generation of agriculture.”

Farmers advertising placements are encouraged to provide information about their flock size, lambing system, placement dates and the practical experience available.

Details of accommodation and other arrangements can also help students assess whether a placement meets their needs.

The Lambing List is available exclusively to NSA members. Non-members can join the association to access the service.
