Sheep premiums less than 1995

WHITEHALL has confirmed the final rate for 1996 sheep annual premium at £13.66 a head, with a less favoured area supplement of £5.38.

This is substantially less than the previous years £21.26, reflecting the more buoyant price for finished sheep during the past 12 months.

Sheep producers have already received two advance payments, worth £10.59 for ewe premium and £5.12 for LFA supplement. As such, balancing payments of just £3.07 and 26p, respectively, remain to be paid.

These will go out to producers in the next few weeks.
