Shropshire lasses are re-united
ABOUT 50 members met at Oswestry, Shropshire recently; all pleased to get together for a good natter after the cancellation of meetings since February.
Ellie Knighton gave a talk about the adventurous trip she took last August to South America. It had been a childhood dream for her to fly over the Andes so when her daughter Rebecca suggested they travel together, she jumped at the chance. No comfortable hotels or anyone to carry the bags for this intrepid pair – on landing in Lima they travelled overland across Peru, through Bolivia and on to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
They travelled by local buses and trains, along part of the sacred valley route the Incas took after the Spaniards arrived in the 12th century and on to Lake Titicaca. Throughout their travels they were intrigued by the local people who worship Mother Earth, and believe it should be treated with respect. Astrology and the equinox also play a very important part in their lives.
There were a few scary moments and the altitude and lack of oxygen proved to be quite a challenge but the whole trip was so enjoyable it would seem that Ellie has caught the travel bug from her daughter.
The evening just whizzed by for all of us – there is nothing like a bit of escapism to make you forget your troubles, even if only for an hour or two.
