Six overseas judges will give

an international flavour

JUDGING in the livestock rings at this years Highland Show will be an international affair, with six overseas visitors joining about 80 other judges who will decide the places in the cattle, sheep, horses and goats competitions.

In both the beef and dairy cattle sections, the inter-breed championships will be judged by Canadians – Rob Matthews from Calgary, Alberta, placing beef cattle and Robert Ness from Howick, Quebec, picking his favourites in the dairy ring.

Mr Matthews will also have the task of awarding the shows top accolade, the Queens Cup, to the best of the individual champions from 14 breeds of cattle.

Four of these champions will be chosen by overseas judges – Beef Shorthorn by David Holmes from New Zealand, Galloway by Merlin Bradley and Belted Galloway by Neville Grimshaw – both from Australia – and British Limousin by Luiz Meneghel de Neton from Brazil.

The inter-breed championship in the sheep section will be judged by John Mackie, Milton of Noth, Huntly, while the best heavy horse will be selected by Sam MacArthur, Bogside of Boath, Auldearn, Nairn.
