Slip delays end to Welsh bone-in ban
WELSH farmers face a last-minute delay in lifting the beef-on-the-bone ban after National Assembly legislation had to be redrafted.
Officials discovered the regulations due to be discussed on Wednesday (15 December) did not cover wholesale retailers, and withdrew the legislation, reports BBC OnlineThe regulations did not cover premises where meat was prepared and cooked – but not sold.
As a result, firms that prepared meat and sold it to restaurants and shops would have still have faced a ban.
The assembly plans to vote to give agriculture minister Christine Gwyther the power to draw up the legislation and lift the ban.
It is thought that the ban will now be lifted on Friday.
