STRAIGHTS prices were more buoyant this week with overall increases seen in many commodities.

Distillers dried imported meal inched up a further £1 to £91/t this week while maize gluten also saw a significant rise. Home produced pellets inched £1 to £77/t and home produced meal climbed £3 to £74/t. Imported pellets/meal nudged up to £72/t.

Home produced rapeseed meal rose £3/t and Vitagold (25 tonne tipped) climbed £2.50 to £34.50/t. Palm kernel expell meal took a fall of £2/t along with distillers dried home produced pellets which fell to £109/t.

A spokesman from Trident Feeds accounted this recent upturn in prices on the wet weather experienced over the past couple of weeks. As the feeding season begins more supplementary feeding will take place. “It is a case of supply and demand,” he said. “Feed prices are very volatile but I believe this is the start of the strengthening.”
