Strong demand for in-milk cows
Strong demand for in-milk cows
AUCTIONEERS Norton and Brooksbank joined forces with resident midlands sellers Bagshaws on the rostrum at Uttoxeter to disperse the Naze Holstein herd for Essex farmers J S Blyth and Sons.
Strongest demand was for in-milk cows with 16 making over 800gns and four over 1000gns. A Jo-Wal Cubby Metro daughter, Naze Metro Violet, led the day at 1150gns. This May-calved heifer was giving 35kg on the day and went to P J Birchall, Gnossal, Staffs. The same bidders also took another fresh Metro-sired heifer at 1100gns.
Several of the choicest milkers went to F and P A Tomkinson and Sons, who spent up to 1100gns on a Cradenhill Speedway daughter, who was putting 46kg into the tank after six weeks milking.
Youngstock met level trade with maiden heifers to 525gns for a yearling by Moet Newton. Calves at foot twice sold to 380gns.
Averages: 109 cows and calved heifers £653, 48 bulling and yearling heifers £486, five heifer calves £211. *
