Sugar beet as feed

Sugar beet as feed
CAN I feed sugar beet to my dairy cows as a supplementary feed?
What are the costs in growing sugar beet, and what tonnage should I expect and, if it is at all possible, what are the relevant feed values?
YES you can.
Many growers feed beet tops and factory waste as well as the whole root. But growing costs and average yields currently achieved might be irrelevant to you because the crop is obviously grown intensively for maximum sugar content.
Yields according to British Sugar average 45t/ha of clean topped roots with a sugar content in excess of 16%.
I have no idea on feeding values and can only suggest you contact Bruce Cotterill, an ADAS nutritionist on +44 (0)1902 693216
