Supplement trace elements on a roll

DRY cows can be supplied proteinated trace minerals to improve subsequent lactation performance using its improved dry cow rolls, says feed compounder SCATS.

The rolls now include Alltech Bioplexes copper, zinc, manganese and selenium in Sel-Plex 50 form to boost uptake and use by the animal, it adds. Each trace element is said to be bound to its own protein so it passes through the animals gut wall and is transported to where its needed.

SCATS cites research to show that animals with improved mineral nutrition during the dry period are in the best nutritional state for conception and production after calving. A 25kg bag costs £4.50 (01962-774432).
