TB inquiry next year
PARLIAMENTS all-party agriculture select committee has announced that it will hold an inquiry early next year into bovine tuberculosis and the governments recently announced five-year TB control study.
The committee will concentrate on the implications of the five-year trial, implemented following the Krebs report.
The design of the experiments and the likely effectiveness of the badger culling involved will be examined, as will the planned comparative farming husbandry studies to establish whether management decisions play a part in herd breakdowns.
Other aspects of the committees investigation will include the effects of TB outbreaks on farmers and the animal welfare implications of badger culling. *
