Tesco opens applications for 2026 agri-tech challenge
© Adobe Stock Tesco has opened applications for its 2026 Agri-tech Challenge, inviting innovators to submit technologies that help farmers improve resilience, productivity and sustainability across the food supply chain.
Launched in partnership with global innovation marketplace Leading Edge Only, the competition seeks ideas to address issues such as animal health and welfare, emissions reduction, soil health, biodiversity, automation, crop losses and food waste.

Successful applicants will receive support from Tesco’s sustainable agriculture and fisheries team, alongside introductions to relevant supply chain partners.
The initiative has been updated for 2026 with two separate pathways based on technology readiness levels (TRLs).
Businesses at TRL stages 4-6 will receive mentoring from a Tesco supplier to help refine and develop their innovation within the sector.
Meanwhile, winners at TRL 7 and above will have the opportunity to trial their technology with one of Tesco’s supply chain partners, as well as receive feedback and mentoring from Tesco’s sustainability team.
Natalie Smith, Tesco’s head of sustainable agriculture and fisheries, said the challenge aimed to identify “practical technologies that can make a difference on farm”.
“Whether that is improving soil health, supporting animal welfare, reducing food waste or helping suppliers become more resilient.
“By connecting innovators with Tesco and our supplier network, we can help promising solutions move closer to real-world impact.”
Applications can be submitted on the Tesco Agri-tech Challenge 2026 website until 3 July.
Shortlisted businesses will pitch at Tesco’s headquarters in Welwyn Garden City on 24 September.
