MINISTERS are set to hold a series of televised public meetings on proposals to ban hunting.

The hearings at Westminster will take evidence from pro- and anti-hunting groups from Sept 9-11.

Three full days of the hearings will be broadcast as part of the governments six-month consultation process on the issue. They will be shown live on the governments web-site and on the BBC TV Parliament Channel.

Countryside Alliance chairman, John Jackson, said: "We are confident that the outcome will show that the evidence does not support a ban on any form of hunting."

The three groups taking part in the hearings are the Countryside Alliance, a coalition of anti-hunting groups known as the Campaign for the Protection of the Hunted Animal, and the Parliamentary "Middle Way" group, which favours regulation. &#42
