TWO department of agriculture officials in Northern Ireland and eight farmers are being investigated as part of an alleged fraud in beef special premium claims.

Press reports in the province last week said 25,000 cattle, imported into Northern Ireland, were involved.

But a DANI spokesman said the number seemed to have been "plucked from the air".
