Up beat trade for youngstock

STRONG local support and a lively trade for youngstock helped level 97 lots at £615 when Lancs farmers Robin and Joyce Roe dispersed their Roebrooks Holstein herd on their marginal land farm at Bleasdale, near Garstang.

A good herd average of 8500kg on this type of holding proved the untapped potential of this herd. Top call came from &#42 E Airey and Sons, Longridge, Preston, who gave 950gns for a Huddlesford Contralto daughter due with her third this month to Crichel Principal. She achieved almost 10,000kg in her last lactation.

Three calved heifers made 900gns but youngstock were keenly sought with a Ked Juror five-month-old heifer calf at 780gns to A and S L Throup, Keighley, West Yorks.

Averages: 47 cows £669; 21 served heifers £664; and 29 recently served and maiden heifers £493 (Norton & Brooksbank). &#42
