THE trouble with wide windrowers is that uneven ground contours can lead to soil contamination.
Pottingers Top 800 twin rotor windrower – a machine with a working width of up to 7.6m (25ft) – is now equipped with two extra wheels to help improve performance when working on uneven ground.
Each of the machines two rotors has a fifth support wheel positioned ahead of it which allows the rake tines to closely follow ground contours, reducing the risk of soil contamination.
Interplay of the systems rocker tandem axles, the new front jockey wheels and rotor suspension is claimed by Pottinger to allow full freedom of movement for each rotor.
One other improvement for the 1997 season is the incorporation of automatically engaging and disengaging support hooks to stabilise the rotors when making headland turns on slopes. *
