Winter barley coming in at just over 7.4t/ha (3.5t/acre) at David Hues’ farm

Winter barley was yielding reasonably well at David Hues’ Galteemore Farm, Beckhampton, Wilts, coming in at just over 7.4t/ha (3.5t/acre).

“It’s not too bad – we started a week ago and it’s come in at about 17% moisture,” he said. “It’s got a bit drier over the weekend and we’ve started again today (21 July).” So far he had cut 49ha (120 acres) of the Sequel winter barley, leaving 53ha (130 acres) to do.

After that would come 162ha (400 acres) of oilseed rape, with the winter wheat about three weeks away. “We haven’t had any sunshine so the grains haven’t really filled out, but I think it will be alright.”

Crop: Winter barley
Variety: Sequel
Area: 49ha (120 acres)
Yield: 7.4t/ha (3.5t/acre)

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
