Wiseman hits out at rival

ROBERT WISEMAN Dairies has accused rival Express Dairies of using competition laws to stop it moving into England, reports The Times.
Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Stephen Byers ordered an inquiry into the Scottish market after complaints of anti-competitiveness against Wiseman.
But Wiseman finance director Billy Keane said on Tuesday (07 November) he was confident his company would be vindicated.
“Perhaps its their way of getting back at us by getting at us in Scotland,” he said. “Well soon see whose side of the story the DTI will buy.”
Wiseman has reported that turnover was up 4.3% to 145.6 million, but profits for the six months to September 30 were down 7.7% from 10.3m to 9.48m.
The company suffered a difficult second half following its failure to purchase Unigate Dairies earlier this year, says The Times.
The Financial Times says questions hanging over Wiseman are the commissions decision and whether its key Droitwich dairy, near Birmingham can attract enough business.
