Yorkshire meadow made nature reserve

ONE of the last true meadows in Englands northern uplands has been declared Britains newest nature reserves, reports The Guardian.

The heads of the National Trust and English Nature travelled from London to honour the work of Walter Umpleby at New House Farm, on Malham Moor in Yorkshire.

Mr Umpleby has created 60 acres of wildflowers using traditional meadow management involving a single mowing in July, prompt removal of hay and no added soil nutrients.
