Judge rules in favour of a Welsh badger cull

The badger cull in Wales has been given the go ahead  after a High Court legal challenge failed.

The ruling was delivered at the High Court, Swansea by the presiding judge Mr Justice Llloyd Jones.

The Badger Trust had sought judicial review because it wanted the Welsh Assembly Government’s TB Eradication Order (Wales) 2009 quashed.

The trust’s barrister argued that when the decision was taken to start a cull, insufficient weight had been given to other alternatives. But the assembly government insisted that a limited cull was a vital part of its TB eradication programme.
