Aberdeenshire wheat looks “exceptionally well”
Aberdeenshire farmer Nick Davidson said 20ha of wheat is looking “exceptionally well”, and he expects to start cutting by the start of next week (w/c Sept 5). Last year Riband averaged 11.25t/ha, which he hopes for again this year.
He has cut 50% of winter barley, with Prestige “running well”. The crop came in at 6.9 – 7.5t/ha, which is above the average of 6.25t/ha. He said screenings have been low and early drilled crops faired better.
He expects the later drilled Cocktail to be more variable.
Mr Davidson has drilled 28ha of oilseed rape which is looking well so far. Slugs have been less of a problem as the weather has been fine and dry, he said.
