Astrid & Winner better than 04 in Cambs
Despite being “concerned with the dryness” of last week, 60ha of oilseed rape cut with “pleasing yields”, reported David Herdman in Cambridgeshire.
The average yields of Astrid and Winner were 3.75t/ha, with Astrid cutting at 3.9t/ha. This was “on average, better than last year”.
He said: “It has gone well and the Astrid was easy to combine.”
Mr Herdman had planned this being his final year of oilseed rape, however “we’ve had a change of policy and will grow it again now”.
Half an inch of rain last night meant that today (25 July) he had “ground to a halt”. However, was planning on looking at cutting Soissons winter wheat “once it has dried out”.
