Burgos sets new maize standards

BURGOS, A newcomer to the NIAB maize descriptive list, is setting new yield standards in its maturity class, according to Banks Cargill.

In trials Burgos, which is in maturity class seven, yielded 0.6t/ha (0.24t/acre) more than the next best varieties, including Belouga and Serenade, says the company’s James Franklin.

“Burgos is also producing high energy values, with average ME’s for crops across Dorset and Somerset standing at 11.3MJ/kg.”

Another of the variety’s strengths is its vigour, he explains. “Early growth is particularly strong and the crop has grown well on sites ranging from sea level up to 350ft.”
