The message from Robin Baines near Norwich, Norfolk is “some low nitrogen levels and higher screening levels in the area”.

Mr Baines was cutting Pearl barley at 6.25t/ha at below 15% moisture.

He said: “The winter barleys will probably be average or just above.”

A neighbour was also cutting barley at 6.25t/ha.

He expected the wheat to be “just below average” when the crop is ready in a fortnight.
