Cordiale underway in Norfolk

Nick Pratt at Downham Market in Norfolk had just started on 400ha of Cordiale wheat which was yielding no more than 6t/ha. The bushel weight he said was very good at 80kg/hl and moisture averaged 16.6%.

Twelve hectares of Cocktail spring barley had also been cut at 6t/ha. He was pleased with the high bushel weight of 68kg/hl, and it looked a good sample. He said screenings were low, though he was slightly concerned for the nitrogen due to a trend for high nitrogen in the Norfolk area.

But he hopes high nitrogen may result in reasonable protein in the wheat. Most of the Soissons and Cordiale wheat was barely fit and so he was not worried about potential rain, although was slightly wary due to the wet harvest last year.
