Ears hit by drought

Despite a “big hiccup” after rain last weekend (Aug 13-14), Corda Nicholls is pleased with wheat harvest so far in Aston, Buckinghamshire.

Ninety-six hectares of Malacca and Xi19 yielded between 7t/ha – 10t/ha, all at 14% moisture.

Quality looked good and he said all the neighbours’ wheat met milling specification. But the tips of the wheat ears had been hit by the drought in July, and did not quite fill out, he added.

  • Crop/Variety: Malacca and Xi19 winter wheat

  • Area: 96ha

  • Yield: 7-10t/ha

  • Quality: N/A
