Easy harvest finished in Bristol
Chris Vowles had finished his harvest at Freemans Farm in Bristol with a total of 26ha of wheat and barley. He said the overall average yield of crops was better than the farm average at 7.5t/ha. He saw a “good crop” of winter barley at 6.25t/ha, and Claire winter wheat yielded well at over 7.5t/ha.
“It was a very low input harvest and was very easy with no drying. All we had to do was cool the crops.”
He said wheat quality was “excellent”, with a good clean sample and bold grain. Bushel weight was also very good and heavy, with a large amount of straw.
“We haven’t sold the crops yet but we know who the buyer will be.”
Mr Vowles expected to raise his 26ha of crops to 28ha next year. “We’ve been encouraged to grow a few extra acres next year.”
He added: “Overall it was a very good harvest with no problems, no breakdowns, and no punctures!”
