Euro growers united vs red tape
BRITISH CEREAL growers have agreed a plan of action on CAP and European issues with French and German counterparts.
Cross-compliance and food safety standards should go no further than basic requirements they will tell the European Commission.
The joint plan of action follows recent meetings between the National Farmers Union and French and German cereal grower organisations.
“Working with the German and French cereal growers will allow us all to meet the needs of the marketplace more efficiently,” said NFU cereal board chairman Arthur Hill.
British, French and German cereal growers are demanding:
• Cross compliance should go no further than the basic requirements of the main regulation.
• Thresholds on mycotoxins should be based on sound, workable scientific research.
• Good consultation and representation structures at Advisory Committee level in the newly-enlarged union.
