First barley samples looking very average

“Everything we’ve received so far is very average – there’s nothing outstanding.”

Bushel weights were around 63-64 kg/hl.

He said he’s so far received a few samples of Pearl barley.

“They look very steely, which indicates that nitrogen levels are high.”

He also said: “They look a bit burnt.”

But explained: “This is due to the very sharp sandy land that these samples came from.”

These samples came from some of the poorer quality land and Mr Jones said the quality will likely improve as barley is harvested from other areas that are later in the season.
