Five combines on the go in Cornwall

John Moss at Howton Farm in Saltash, Cornwall, said things were “complete bedlam”. Once the rain had stopped after 10 days, everything was ready to cut at the same time. “I had five combines going yesterday.”

Castille oilseed rape came in at 11% moisture and yielded 4.4t/ha.

Pearl winter barley was disappointing for Mr Moss, yielding 6.75 – 7t/ha. He said both Antonia and Carat didn’t yield as well as he had hoped. The lowest yield of 5.6t/ha looked like it should have been 7t/ha.

But, he thought the remaining 64ha of winter barley should be more promising.
