Growers plan to drop milling wheat
Harvest Highlights reporter Karen Willmer is reporting that growers across the country are thinking hard about whether to continue with milling wheat next season.
“I’ve been picking up over the past week or so that farmers are saying the milling premiums are not high enough and do not cover the cost of growing milling varieties over feed wheat,” she said.
An abundance of good quality wheat this season looks unlikely to help milling growers extract the premium they’re after and it has left many thinking that cheaper-to-grow feed wheat might be a better option.
But is it, and what will you be doing?
