Hopes for better second wheat in Kent

SECOND WHEAT Einstein is coming off at 3t/ac at Neil Strand’s Burgess Farm, Whitstable, Kent.

“It’s the first year we’ve grown second wheat and we’ve harvested with the driest south-facing land. I’m confident the remainder will be better.”

Oilseed rape – Caracas and Borneo – harvest is already finished with the crop averaging 1.4t/ac, which Mr Strand described as “average, although up on last year.” The crop was a lot cleaner, he added.

First wheat Hereward, which was “not quite ready yet”, Robigus, and beans and linseed will be harvested once the remaining Einstein us cut.
