Into wheat at Hanbury

Roger Brian has just started combining winter wheat at Park Farm, Hanbury, Worcestershire.

“I don’t think it will be as good as last year – it’s quite shrivelled up,” he said. “It’s all feed wheat – we’ve started on Diego, and the grains are quite small.”

However, having made a start, he had now stopped again, with the moisture up at 19%. “We just need some sun.”

Osprey oilseed rape had yielded a pleasing 4t/ha, which was lower than last year’s 5.4t/ha but better than some others in the area.

“We’re quite happy with that. We’ve still got one field left, which isn’t quite fit.”

The 9ha of winter barley had averaged about 6.2t/ha. “It’s just for feed, and we haven’t put it over the weighbridge, but it will be there or thereabouts.”

Crop: Oilseed rape
