New look for spud site

POTATO GROWERS can now access an updated and improved version of the potatocrop.com website, it has been announced.

The site content remains unchanged and aims to provide growers with independent agronomy advice, market news, events, industry listings and variety reports, said site editor, Jo Palmer.

“The new look website covers all the ‘old favourites’, but it will be easier to log in and find your way around with a new search facility,” she said.

A key feature of the site is the localised blight warning system, BlightWatch, which provides free daily warnings of Smith Periods or Near Smith Periods, via email or SMS text message.

The service, which can be used in conjunction with the British Potato Council’s ‘Fight against Blight’ site, also provides a weekly map of the UK showing where high-risk criteria have been recorded, she added.

“This unique blight forecasting system is based on the exclusive arrangement that we have with the Met office and ADAS for the provision of highly detailed weather and blight modelling.”

The site can be accessed at www.potatocrop.com.
