Paul Nicholson, seed representative in Norfolk said that harvesting is making good progress.

Winter barley harvest is nearing completion with 80 90% of the area combined. Farmers in the area feel that the quality is reasonable and are happy with yield.

Oilseed rape combining is also making steady progress with 50-60% now in the barn.

But it is not all good news. Due to the weather only 10% of the total wheat is ready to go and spring barley has lower quality and yield credentials over last year, he said.

Mr Nicholson expects wheat to be well under way within the next week.
