He said: “The crop is about the same as last year.

“Bushel weights were 68 (kg/hl), which was a lot better than expected.”

But the weather had an effect on his crop this year.

“The wind knocked it about quite badly,” he said.

Mr Swinson has also harvested 18ha (45 acres) of Winner oilseed rape out of a total 100ha (250 acres), which is “not too bad”, he reports.

“We managed to get 50 tonnes from 30 acres (12 ha)” which equates to 1.7 t/acre or      4.2 t/ha.

“We didn’t have problems of establishment,” he adds.

Mr Swinson says that the harvest is so far on par with last year.
