Oilseed rape disappoints on Scottish Borders
John Jeffrey from Roxburghshire on the Scottish Borders expects to finish 48ha of oilseed rape today (August 15) with very poor yields. Winner yielded 3.1t/ha which was at least 0.6t/ha down on last year, he said.
Quality looked good and the crop met oil content targets, but he was disappointed by the low yields. The crop all came in dry.
He expects to start spring barley this week and wheat by next week (w/c Aug 22). He said the fine weather in July may have helped the wheats: “They have every right to do well.”
