Cereals 2026: New PGRO initiative to enhance crop performance
© Tim Scrivener The Pulse Performance Network (PPN) is a new initiative established by the PGRO to enhance benchmarking and crop performance for pea and bean growers.
Following 10 years of the Pea and Bean Yield Enhancement Networks, the PGRO has created a new structure focusing on delivering practical, farm-ready insights.

A dedicated PPN app will allow participants to record crop management information directly in the field throughout the season, says Erin Matlock, research agronomist at the PGRO.
“Every entrant gets a report at the end of the season, detailing what has gone well and potential improvement areas, from cross-analysis across all entrants and multiple seasons,” she adds.
“Peas and beans are a key part of rotations, but they are known to have inconsistent yields. The aim of the initiative is to enhance sustainability of crop performance. The more entrants involved, the stronger the dataset and the more information we can provide to the farm gate,” she says.
The goal is not just to measure performance, but to ensure every dataset collected translates into something meaningful, whether that’s improving yield , enhancing quality, or reducing environmental impact.
The PPN will officially open for applications in September. Visit pgro.org for more information.
