Rain slows Leicestershire progress
Leicestershire farmer Ray Coates said frost in May has meant yields are not up to average, despite having potentially looked better. But he said bushel weights of the three varieties have been very good at 79kg/hl.
One and a half inches of rain in the past week means he has been unable to finish the final 80ha of wheat. Considering quality levels he added: “Thankfully we don’t grow any milling wheat.”
Harvest progress is ahead of last year, although he said they may be behind if rain continues for another few days.
All crops are still standing, although he said the ground is currently too damp to travel on.
