Reasonable yields in Kent

Martin Boulden was 80% through 480ha (1200ac) winter wheat, but was now stopped by rain. “It has been a non-eventful week. We did a little yesterday but then got rained off again.”

Yields of Claire had been “reasonable” at 10t/ha (4t/ac), but he said Robigus had not been so good due to the dry weather through the summer.

“Yields were much the same as average.”

He said the 20% remaining crop was all Claire and had not yet been affected by the rain. Harvest was still slightly ahead of normal.

“We always have two wet weeks in August every year so it makes no difference for us.”
