Sprays & Sprayers: New names, new technology
Sprays & Sprayers presents an annual opportunity to catch up with all that is new in pesticide and liquid fertiliser application systems. Andy Collings takes a look at some new developments
Dammann makes its debut

Dammann has more than 50% of the German self-propelled sprayer market and has its eye on the UK market. A four-wheeled version will be at Cereals. |
Dammann crop protection products are manufactured in Germany, where the company commands more than 50% of the self-propelled sprayer market.
A new company, Chantry-Dammann UK, has been formed to import the self-propelled, demountable, and trailed sprayer ranges into the UK and Ireland.
At Cereals 2009, stand number 1168, Chantry-Dammann will be showing a four-wheel hydrostatic machine; the Dammann DT 2000-H PLUS, featuring a Mercedes six-cylinder, 205hp water-cooled engine. Electronic, all-wheel hydrostatic drives, four-wheel steering, and pneumatic load sensing suspension are also featured. Ground clearance is 1100mm.
Amazone

The operator also receives an early warning of an approaching headland.
Due to be available later this year, Amazone says the new system will add another £2890 to the cost of a sprayer or fertiliser spreader.

Lemken

Aluminium tubular booms are claimed to combine light weight with strength and widths are from 15m to 24m.
Two versions of the sprayer are on offer – the Sirius 7 is equipped with Lemken‘s Easyspray in-cab control for all functions, while the Sirius 9 gets the Spraydos operating system which maintains set application rates for any forward speed.
Landquip
Taking pride of place on Landquip‘s stand at the event will be the company’s latest version of its self-propelled FieldLeader sprayer.
Designated the FieldLeader 6240 – 6000 litres for the size of the tank and the 240hp for the power of the engine – this would appear to be no mean machine and one which Landquip claims is a totally new design.
Power is provided by a Cummins engine which drives through a six-speed transmission to provide mechanical drive to the front and rear axles.
In keeping with current trends, there is an automatic 20-section boom shut-off system activated by GPS and boom widths of up to 48m are available.
For liquid fertiliser application there is a system which allows variable-rate application in respect of collated field data which can be downloaded via memory stick to the office computer.
Landquip has also mounted the main tank on weigh cells to provide the operator with a continual update on the amount of liquid remaining in the tank.

Sands Agricultural Machinery
Making its debut appearance at Sprays & Sprayers is the latest range of self-propelled sprayers from Sands – the Vision range.
The major changewould appear to be the fitting of a new cab which has a curved windscreen and such luxuries as climate control, CD radio, and hands-free.
A new control console incorporates a multi-function joystick which is responsible for forward and rear movement, boom section control and main spray on and off.
At the rear of the machine, the prime and purge boom recirculation system has been improved through use of some low-volume plumbing, reports Sands and has resulted in high pressures being used to prime the boom before spraying and also to rinse the boom when work is completed.
Tecnoma’s new Laser Evolution self-propelled sprayer has a hydrostatic drive and is powered by a Deutz engine – 180hp for the 3200 litre model and 200hp for the 4200 litre.
Tecnoma
The latest development from Tecnoma is a new Laser Evolution self-propelled sprayer. Available with tank capacities of 3200 and 4200 litres, each features a 440-litre rinse tank with power provided by Deutz engines – the smaller 3240 is rated at180hp and the larger 4240 at 200hp.
The transmission is hydrostatic and employs Bosch Rexworth load sensing wheel motors for a 40kph top speed. The new sprayers have two and four wheel steering along with crab and rear axle slope correction.
Aixair suspension linked axles provide a ground clearance of up to 1.6m and track width can be varied from 1.8m to 2.25m with a further option of 3m.
For the operator, a new cab offers good panoramic visibility, says Tecnoma.
Hypro
Visitors to Hypro‘s stand will be able to see how the company’s new container cleaning nozzle works – its design is claimed to achieve cleaner containers faster and with less water.
The ProClean nozzle distributes the cleaning jet over all inner surfaces and rotates slowly to generate stronger and more effective cleaning jets.
Hypro points out that good container cleaning is now mandatory and adds that its new system works well on all container sizes and reduces cleaning time by up to 50% when compared with other systems.

Features include air suspension on front and rear axles, a large cab with a rear door and a 180° swivel chair.
Two hydrostatic models are on offer – a 180hp, 3200-litre and a 200hp, 4200-litre. Both can be fitted with booms up to 44m wide.
Options include the company’s Dualelec electronic control system for rinsing and agitation and a high volume Omega pump is fitted as standard.
Househam

For advocates of electronic control systems, the event will also see the company’s new Field Master which employs GPS to provide a host of operations. The new system can also be used to provide a record of spraying activities and provide an important traceability record.
Chafer
Recognising the trend towards the use of subsoilers to plant oilseed rape in the freshly moved soil behind a subsoiler leg, Chafer has developed a system to spray liquid fertiliser in bands immediately in front of the leg.
Spraying kit comprises a tractor or implement mounted 1000 litre fibreglass tank with a hydraulically driven pump and a choice of constant pressure regulation or a ground related application rate control. Fertiliser is delivered to the ground via a stainless steel spray bar having a filter and electronic shut-off.

John Deere
Sprays & Sprayers will be the first opportunity to see John Deere‘s automatic dilution and rinsing system now available for its 800i and 800i TF series trailed sprayers.
The system employs a multi-cycle dilution and spray process which is designed to make the most efficient use of clean water provided by the sprayer’s rinse tank.
A “rinse calculator” automatically controls the number of rinse cycles required to ensure proper cleaning and ensures that the available water is used in the most efficient way.
