Sussex barley yields well

Paul Strudwick from Castle Farm Partnership in West Sussex had finished 60ha of Sequel and Carat winter barley.

Both varieties yielded “well over” 7.5t/ha, which he said was “acceptable”.

Mr Strudwick was “surprised” the Sequel bushel weight of 66.9kg/hl was above the Carat weight of 66.2kg/hl.

He was waiting for the rain to clear to allow cutting of spring barley, and added: “The barley yields are equally as good as last year.
