Variable yields and mixed quality
“We’ve had enough rain to last us until the end of August,” said Ed Lankfer in Wereham, Norfolk.
He’s having a mixed harvest so far. “Yields haven’t been spectacular and quality’s been mixed but overall we’re quite pleased.”
He’s harvested Gladiator, Xi19 and Robigus with variable results.
One small field of Xi19 was yielding a respectable 8.65 t/ha (3.5 t/acre) and 13.3% protein, but then another field failed.
“The dry spell (in April) may have caused such variations in the fields, but there’s got to be something else because I gave the fields the same treatment.”
Mr Lankfer is most happy with the Robigus so far saying he will definitely grow it again next year.
